Guests are invited to visit during this 1 week string camp to see first hand how music education makes a difference in the live of children in the Chicago area! This highly successful program will host 60 string and guitar students from Chicago Public Schools for one week on the VanderCook College of Music campus. The life changing experience provides high school students an opportunity to receive the highest quality instruction from VanderCook students serving as mentors. Students will receive individual, small group and large ensemble instruction and will follow a rigorous schedule of rehearsals, coaching and masterclasses. Curriculum incorporates the education plans of the school district and university in a cohesive mix that provides an innovative learning environment that propels students to engage with their mentors, become more passionate about their musical abilities and achieve a higher level of character and leadership excellence. Summer Strings culminates in a free concert on Friday, August 10, 2018 which will be attended by parents, friends, donors and is open to the community as well.
